Are service plates always made with coffee, rum, and water?

What is the significance behind service plates, why do we make them?

They can have extras but thats the base foundation. Coffee, Rum, Water.

Its symbolic of having a drink with the spirits. Thats how you started a conversation in the old days, over a drink.

Yes, its okay to set one whenever. Some people have one up 24/7.
