The effects of Capitalism on Traditions

Quote from Tata Rompe Pecho on March 21, 2023, 11:02 pmCapitalism has impacted almost all Americans in very profound ways, whether they know it or not. To some, it has become the very weapon used against their existence. The extent of which Capitalism has been used to target some becomes evident on how it has been used to destroy the sense of community and love among traditions. Capitalism has encouraged frauds, scammers and legitimate practicing members to claim practices with a spin; everything has a price. These prices far outweigh the value of having community. In a sense you can see how spiritual traditions went from being about helping the community to building a Multi-Level Marketing scheme and in some cases even a Business-To-Business scheme.
In a country where capitalism is the recognized and accepted system, the system is used to target certain minority groups to keep them under control. Unfortunately for some of these groups, their only real outlet is to participate in this system and find ways to succeed. But people dont seem to recognize that these groups bring culture, traditions and identity with them. These things are still very much under attack by Capitalism. The wealthy and famous receive goods for next to nothing, their using these goods is seen as advertising. The people living below the national poverty line pay full price. Their using of these products is influenced by their favorite famous people who receive the same products for free and then encourage their fans to surrender their financial gains to be more like them. This keeps the wealthy always wealthy, the poor always poor and is just one such example.
Since we are speaking on traditions, lets elaborate as to how traditions once were versus how they now are. In the times of slavery, African Traditional Religions were brought to the Americas via Slave Trade by the enslaved folk. Their traditions were then modified in order to survive slavery, these changes could have been anywhere from minor subtle changes to major obvious ones. Regardless, the changes were made by the enslaved folk, to ensure the continuation of their traditions. These traditions were originally very communal and had almost nothing to do with any form of payment. In essence, ceremonies were bartered over and the spiritual community would come together and help new initiates procure whatever it was they needed out of love for their newfound sibling. In more recent times, there is no ceremony at all without a monetary exchange up front. There is no community that will come together and help you procure anything either.
These more recent changes where everything gained a price, ushered in a new era. One where the dollar was king and determined the value of the practitioner. See even now, people view practitioners the same as sneakers. The ones with the big prices are the quality ones, the ones with smaller prices or free are worthless. You get what you pay for, right? This is wrong, dangerous and a toxic assumption based on a capitalistic perspective. So why is this dangerous? This is a dangerous assumption to make because wherever there is money in a capitalistic society, there will be people chasing said money by any means. This means people willing to falsify ceremonies, sell bits of false wisdom, etc. Even people that are legitimate become toxic because they lose the love for their community and become increasingly willing and capable of atrocities in their endless search for the almighty dollar.
Multi-Level Marketing schemes are when one person pays an entry fee below someone else and then recruits people to pay a fee to join under themselves and so the recruitment continues. If visualized, this would look like a pyramid. This is why most MLM schemes are also usually called Pyramid Schemes. So what happens when people from within a specific house or pyramid reach out to people outside of their own house? In essence its one pyramid contracting another to perform a task, its a Business-to-Business deal. There is no regard for the people of which they are recruiting, they are just wishing to teach them enough for them to recruit their next recruitment officer.
Practitioners are sometimes viewed as nice and this is a problem because the paying customer does not understand that the kindness is just the customer service they already paid for. The kindness is not authentic. In hindsight I guess I can say to you that if everything on your spiritual journey has a price, you are most likely in the middle of being trapped in a place of toxic self-interest.

All donations are used to keep the Temple running and to help its members with their spiritual needs.
